On behalf of the faculty, staff, and
students of the Department of Civil
Engineering at AUD I welcome you to our web
site. Our program and location in one of the
world’s fastest growing cities provide
excellent opportunities for learning and
career development. Our faculty and students
represent the diversity of Dubai’s
population. Our curriculum is designed to
provide a balance between fundamental
science, engineering science, humanities and
social sciences. While our curriculum in the
second and third years of study achieves a
balance among the various disciplines of
civil engineering, our students also have
the chance in their fourth year to focus on
the concentration of their choice. Through
the 15 credit hours of civil engineering
electives, students can choose courses that
range from structural analysis and design,
geotechnical engineering, water resources
and environmental engineering, and
transportation engineering. With the
introduction of the Field Experience in
Civil Engineering course, our students have
a unique opportunity to work in some
landmark projects in Dubai under the
supervision of highly qualified engineers
during the summer of their third year.
The civil engineering program at AUD is also
accredited by the Engineering Accreditation
Commission of ABET which is intended to
certify the quality of engineering and
technology programs. Our faculty members are
highly qualified and motivated. Through
funding acquired by faculty members’
efforts, our Water and Environmental
Technology (WET) laboratory was recently
upgraded with state-of-the-art equipment.
The low student-to-faculty ratio provides
our students with an exceptional opportunity
to interact with the faculty and to get high
quality education. These are some of the
reasons why our graduates continue to
receive both job and postgraduate studies
offers from reputable employers and
universities around the world.
We are committed to continue to provide high
quality education through the recruitment of
high caliber students and faculty members,
and the attainment of the state of the art
experimental and computing laboratories. We
are constantly striving to improve our
program and to grow in order to stay in pace
with the challenges of the 21st century. So
if you are a prospective engineering student
considering civil engineering for your
career, I strongly encourage you to join the
profession committed to building the quality
of our life.
