Raed Shubair

Raed Shubair is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Khalifa University, UAE. He is also officially affiliated with MIT as Visiting Research Scientist at the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) and Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Prof. Raed Shubair received a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering (with Distinction and Class Honors) from Kuwait University, Kuwait in June 1989 and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (with Distinction) from University of Waterloo, Canada in Feb 1993. His PhD thesis received the University of Waterloo Distinguished Doctorate Dissertation Award (1993). Prof. Raed Shubair is an affiliate of University of Waterloo Center for Intelligent Antenna and Radio Systems and University of Waterloo Center for Bioengineering and Biotechnology. His current research interests include advanced techniques and technologies for communications, signal processing, electromagnetics, antennas, and biomedical applications. Prof. Raed Shubair has been Invited Speaker at a number of prominent universities and research centers including recently Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ohio State University, Queen Mary University of London, and Imperial College. Prof. Raed Shubair research publications include US patents, book chapters, papers in IEEE transactions and international journals, and papers in IEEE conferences and workshops. Prof. Raed Shubair is Fellow of the prestigious MIT Electromagnetics Academy and is a Senior Member of IEEE. He is Life Member of IEEE MTT Society. Prof. Raed Shubair has many professional engineering contributions during his career at UAE. These include his role as founding member of IEEE-UAE SP/COM Joint Societies Chapter, IEEE-UAE EMB Society Chapter, and IEEE-UAE MTT Society Chapter. Prof. Raed Shubair is recipient of several distinguished awards which include University of Waterloo Distinguished Doctorate Dissertation Award (1993); University of Waterloo International Student Tuition Waiver; Ontario Graduate Scholarship; Teaching Excellence Award, Khalifa University (2008); Distinguished Service Award, ACES Society (2005); Distinguished Service Award, Electromagnetics Academy (2007); Distinguished Service Award, Khalifa University (2010); Supervisor and co-author of IEEE IIT conference Best Paper Award (2015); Supervisor and co-author of IEEE WCNC paper recipient of Student Travel Award (2015); Supervisor and co-author of IEEE ICCSPA conference paper recipient of Best Student Poster Award (2015). Prof. Raed Shubair conducted several tutorials and workshops in international conferences, and has been on the editorial boards of several distinguished internal journals. He serves as the Liaison for Middle East and North Africa for European Conference on Antennas and Propagation, and European School of Antennas. Prof. Raed Shubair is the Chair of IEEE AP Society Educational Initiatives Committee and currently serves as the Chair of the Technical Program Committee of the IEEE MMS`2016 Conference.
