AUD signs agreement with Aurora Swiss Aerospace


The School of Engineering at the American University in Dubai (AUD) has partnered with Aurora Swiss Aerospace (ASA), a subsidiary of Aurora Flight Sciences Corporation, on providing internships and professional training for AUD students as well as collaborating on research and development projects.

The agreement was signed between Mr. Amir Kalaoun, Aurora Swiss Aerospace Business Development Director MENA, Europe and Asia and Dr. Lance de Masi, President of AUD, in the presence of several university administrators and faculty members.


Dr. de Masi highlighted that such collaborations were a reflection of the institutional support and positive attitude towards student development. "We are pleased to partner with the region's professional community while bridging the gap between academia and practice and following the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai on the importance of activating strategic partnerships with the private sector."

Dr. Alaa Ashmawy, Dean of the School of Engineering at AUD commented, "the School continuously liaises with international companies to keep up-to-date with new technologies, and this agreement confirms the university's mission is in accordance with the UAE's mission for space exploration and the improvement of the aviation industry in general."

As for Mr. Amir Kalaoun, he explained that Aurora Swiss Aerospace was a dynamic company providing engineering expertise and design development across a wide range of disciplines related to unmanned aircraft systems. "The objective of this agreement is a scientific cooperation with the School of Engineering to train students on the latest in aviation technology, in addition to the exchange of scientific research, and hosting students and faculty members to inform them of the developments in this vital area."

Dr. Wael Bazzi, Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at AUD presented an overview of the department; he commented "The School of Engineering plays an important role in the advancement of our student body through enhancing their educational experience and supporting the faculty through initiatives aimed at enriching their professional experience. The importance of this agreement is to link cooperation and strategic partnership between our School and ASA in many areas of research and development and engineering training. ASA are industry leaders in their sector and have the technical expertise and capabilities to enhance our students' exposure to real life developments."

Aurora Swiss Aerospace serves the equipment, support, and operations needs of Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) users throughout Europe and nearby regions. It is a subsidiary of Aurora Flight Sciences that has its main offices in MIT and Cambridge. The company's main activity is aerospace industry and high-tech applications
