Welcome Message

I welcome you to the Mechanical Engineering Department at the American University in Dubai (AUD). This website is intended to provide information about our department to both current and prospective students, as well as professionals and partners. The information pertains to our academic program, profiles of faculty members, activities currently underway in the department, and our lab and research facilities. We hope that whether you are a student, or a professional in industry or academia, you will find this website to be informative and useful.

The mechanical engineering program at AUD was launched in 2010 to fill in a gap in undergraduate mechanical engineering education in the region. Specifically, the program came as an answer to the growing demand for mechanical engineering by corporate recruiters and high school students who visit our campus regularly. The program builds upon the strengths of AUD’s existing ABET accredited programs in civil, electrical, and computer engineering. The program of study has been initially accredited by the Commission on Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the UAE, and has been approved for implementation by the Commission on Colleges (COC) of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in the USA.

A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at AUD prepares students to work in a wide range of fields, including manufacturing, automotive, aeronautics, oil and gas, energy, construction, and consulting. Our curriculum comprises a combination of general education subjects, math and science fundamentals, and mechanical engineering core courses. A sequence of well-designed electives exposes our senior students to a wide variety of areas such as computer aided design, robotics, aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, internal combustion engines, and HVAC systems.

Students in our program enjoy small size classes with 10-15 students in most sections. Courses are taught by experienced professors with strong records of accomplishment. State of the art labs and excellent facilities are in place to ensure an effective teaching and learning experience. Students have the opportunity to be members of prestigious professional societies such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Through their participation and achievements in the activities of these societies, our students continually keep our department in the regional and international spotlight.
